Panama

Highlight:

San Blas Archipelago (aka Kuna Yala Peninsula)

Why?

I loved staying on such a tiny island inhabited only by the indigenous Kuna people and see how they live their lives. The untouched islands I visited were out of this world in terms of their beauty and remoteness. It was a privilege to go there.

What did you do?

Acquainted myself with the Kuna community of the island on which I stayed, sunbathed, swam and took boat trips to a few surrounding islands.

Lasting memory?

Walking up the runway to get on the tiny aeroplane from Panama City from to El Porvenir. It was just six rows deep with not so much as a curtain separating the pilot from the passengers. I remember thinking “this thing is definitely going to fall out of the sky.”

Highlight:

Boquete

Why?

It’s a gorgeous highland town surrounded by coffee plantations where the air is clean and the setting perfect for a stroll.

Boquete

What did you do?

Went on a tour of a coffee plantation, seeing the whole process from bean to cup and went zip lining in a in a forest which was so much fun (though I did hurt my hand).

Lasting memory?

The number of real estate agents in the town. It is a beautifully quaint place and those people know. Visit before it changes too much.
